Barrel Fluting

The number one reason to have your barrel fluted is accuracy. The fluting essentially creates an I-beam pattern, making the barrel more rigid and reducing (or virtually eliminating) the vibration as the bullet goes down the barrel. Wasatch Precision Arms goes a step further by having our flutes follow the bore of the barrel instead of the taper – as many other gunsmiths do. This further increases the rigidity and decreases the gun’s harmonics. The bullet flies straighter, resulting in a more accurate shot.

Additional benefits of barrel fluting are weight reduction, aesthetic appearance and more surface area. The weight reduction is a plus when you are packing and scouting. The aesthetic appeal of a fluted barrel is just simply a personal preference. And more surface area contributes to the barrels ability to cool down quicker, reducing wait time between shots.
